Today’s Headline: Snow Is All That Saved This Section From Very Serious Flooding.
The worst flooding since 1913 threw sections of Covington was held down as rain suddenly changed to snow that stuck. The snow came as a life-saver to area residents.
Mrs. J. Arthur Cooke, who recently underwent an operation at the C&O Hospital, has improved significantly to be moved from the hospital.

Today’s Headline: Jeter Pupils Return From History Tour.
A group of 34 seventh grade students from Jeter Elementary School and five adults returned from a trip to the restored colonial city of Williamsburg last night at 10:41 p.m.
Miss Rita Ann Pullen of Madison College, Harrisonburg, is spending the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G.T. Sweet of Rockbridge Baths.

Today’s Headline: State Bank Reports Best Year Yet.
Don E. Stone Jr., president, reported that 1985 was teh most successful year ever for the State Bank of the Alleghenies. Earnings for the year exceeded the combined totals of the previous six years.
Dr. Edwin H. Warfield, a White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., orthodontist, recently opened an office in Clifton Forge at 321 Commercial Avenue.

Today’s Headline: Clifton Forge’s K-9 Retires.
Ace, the Clifton Forge Police Department’s K-9 is retiring from service. Ace ended his nine-year law enforcement career Friday. His handler, Officer Ryan Barron, will keep Ace as a pet.
Col. Bob Simpson will begin his duties as director of the Joint Staff, Virginia Army and Air National Guard Monday.
Residents and staff of the Brian Center in Low Moor recently participated in activities to celebrate Mardi Gras.
