A stove explosion in a Roxbury Street home, followed by a false alarm inadvertently turned in by a member of the fire department, gave the Clifton Forge firemen a busy half hour yesterday afternoon.
Mr. Bob Weaver is ill at his home in the O’Gara Apartments on Maple Avenue.

Today’s Headline: City Police Seek To Halt Illegal Discharge Of Guns.
Covington Police Chief Donald Leet has announced a crackdown on illegal firing of air rifles and similar weapons within the city limits.
Mr. and Mrs. S.C. Cash of Spruce Street announce the engagement of their daughter, Myrtle Lorrine to Glenn N. Hoke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hoke of Rt. 1 Covington.

Betsy Caul has announced that she and her husband, Bert, have assumed ownership of The Bakery (formerly called Old Colonial Bakery & Catering) located at 301 W. Main Street in Covington.
A brochure to promote tourism in Virginia west of the Blue Ridge Mountains has been printed and distributed by the Fifth District Planning Commission headquartered in Roanoke.

Today’s Headline: C.F. Council OKs Use Of Theatre.
Clifton Forge Town Council will allow a church to use the Masonic Theatre for an Easter morning worship service. Council voted to allow Living Stones Ministries to use the theatre for a $400 fee.
During the first 73 days of 2006, wildland fires in Virginia have increased 382 percent over the same period last year. The number of acres burned increased 1,297 percent.
