Today’s Headline: Flood Damage In Alleghany County Not As Great As First Anticipated.
The flood waters in Alleghany County have now receded to a marked degree, leaving in their wake much less damage than was at first anticipated. Town, county and state officials are making extensive checks to determine damage.
Mrs. J.W. Topping of Newport News is the guest of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. E.H. Hill on Main Street.

Today’s Headline: Bath County Supervisors Approve Dam.
The Bath County Board of Supervisors went on record as re-endorsing the Gathright Dam Project and forwarded copies of a supporting resolution to the President, Congressmen, the governor of Virginia and interested chambers of commerce.
Mrs. Cindy Jones has been ill at her home, but is improving.

Today’s Headline: Request For Legal Opinion Outlined To Alleghany Supervisors.
Residents of the Falling Springs area have asked the Alleghany County Board of Supervisors to request a legal opinion from Attorney General Mary Sue Terry about the manner in which they have been denied access to public road funds.
A visit by the Appalachia Bloodmobile from Roanoke was sponsored by Kmart on March 10.

Today’s Headline: Lillie Hughes Named TAPs 2006 Heart Award Recipient.
Lillie Hughes has been named TAP’s 2006 Heart Award recipient. She was presented the award Saturday evening during TAP’s 8th annual banquet, held at Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church in Covington.
Highlands Community Bank has made a donation to the Art of Chocolate Festival which will be held April 8 at Mountain View Elementary School.
