The members of the Covington Woman’s Club and a number of their friends enjoyed a rare pleasure in hearing Mrs. J.L. Hamaker of Lynchburg speak on art.
Mrs. Agnes Kent returned yesterday to her home on McCormick Street after spending the past week visiting friends and relatives in Richmond and Norfolk.

Today’s Headline: Hugh McAllister Died Last Night.
Hugh Maffitt McAllister, 81, longtime prominent businessman in Covington, died unexpectedly in his sleep last night at his home, Milton Hall.
Charles Lewis of Hematite, son of Mrs. Lee Lewis, was injured in a car-truck accident, and is a patient at Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Covington.

Today’s Headline: Washed Out Section Of Wall To Be Rebuilt.
The Covington City School Board accepted a recommendation of Superintendent Dr. Jerry Webb that the wall at Covington High School, washed out by the November flood, be replaced in April with a comparable concrete structure.
Beverly Ludington won the school spelling bee held at Boiling Spring Elementary School on February 21.

Today’s Headline: Marjorie McCarthy Bequeaths $7 Million To Two Colleges, Three Health Groups.
Bequests of more than $7 million from the estate of Marjorie McCarthy to two colleges and three national health care organizations were announced Friday.
Twenty contestants will vie for the title of Junior Miss Queen of Hearts this evening at 7 p.m. at Covington High School’s Curfman Hall. The pageant is sponsored by the Alleghany Heart Unit.
