Today’s Headline: Cougar Boxers Oppose Central High Pugilists.
Covington High School will open up a branch of sports which has heretofore been unknown in local high school annuals when a well-coached Cougar boxing team casts its lot with young huskies from Low Moor tonight in Jeter Auditorium.
Mr. and Mrs. John Martin have returned to their home here on Hawthorne Street after spending the winter in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Today’s Headline: Quick Firemen Douse Fire.
A flaming fire poured thick clouds of smoke from the upper floor of the old Collins Theatre building and the adjoining Hotel Saturday afternoon as a force of 40 firemen with five pieces of equipment rushed to the scene after the alarm was turned in at 4 p.m. No one was injured.
Mrs. E.E. Fliess and the Rev. Robert Hughes are co-captains for the Red Cross Drive in Iron Gate this year.

Today’s Headline: Flood Control For Covington To Be Investigated.
Covington City Council authorized City Manager Richard Flora Tuesday to request the Army Corps of Engineers conduct a preliminary study of areas that were damaged during the November flood.
W.N. John Rice was recently appointed senior vice president of First Virginia Bank-Highlands in Covington.

Today’s Headline: Katie Graham Is Junior Miss Queen Of Hearts.
Katie Lynn Graham has been crowned the 2006 Junior Miss Queen of Hearts. Her reign began Saturday night in Covington High School’s Curfman Hall. Katie is the daughter of Paul and Karen Graham of Covington.
Alleghany County Public Schools will hold the first of three kindergarten orientation sessions Wednesday, March 22.
