CLIFTON FORGE – Alfred Calvin Miller, 89, of St. Clair, Mich., died Sunday, May 15, 2011.
Alfred was born April 23, 1922 in Kerrs Creek, to the late Heiskell J. and Eliza Radie Wilhelm Miller.
After military service during World War II, he married Evelyn M. Ford on his birthday in 1946. Al worked for Michigan Bell Telephone for 43 years, retiring in 1983. He was an active member and officer at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Detroit, MI for over 30 years, an active member and officer in Kiwanis for over 40 years, and most recently attended Colonial Woods Missionary Church, P. H. He also was a member of Veterans Car Club. He loved the Lord, his family, restoring his grandmother’s ’35 Ford, and writing three historical books.
He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas A. Miller in 2001.
He is survived by his loving wife Evelyn of St. Clair, Mich.; a son, Robert G Miller; a daughter, Joan M (David) Watt; eight grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Patricia Hall and Pauline Tolley of Lexington, and a brother Richard “Dick” Miller of Clifton Forge.
A graveside funeral service will take place on Monday at 10 a.m. in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge with the Rev. Clifford Hall officiating.
Military rites will be conducted at the graveside by members of the Burnside-Carpenter VFW Post 4299 of Clifton Forge.
A memorial service will follow at 12 p.m. on Monday in Kerrs Creek Baptist Church, Lexington, also with the Rev. Clifford Hall officiating.
The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Colonial Woods Missionary Church in St. Clair, Michigan, or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
