CLIFTON FORGE, VA (VR) — Clifton Forge Town Manager Chuck Unroe updated Town Council during its August meeting on several projects underway throughout the town, including the downtown master plan, walkability improvements, the Roxbury Street bridge and the town’s website.
Unroe also took time to recognize summer intern MacKenzie Carter for her work with the town. He spoke highly of Carter and the contributions she made during her time as an intern.
Installation of a new public address system in the council chambers is currently underway. The system is expected to improve audio during council meetings and other events held in the chambers.
The town’s downtown master plan is also moving toward its next phase. Unroe said the kickoff for the plan is scheduled for mid-September. Following the kickoff, officials will return to the community to interact with residents and gather input as the planning process continues.
The town’s walkability study is nearing completion. Unroe said the study focused in part on the area between Kroger and the Mountain View Apartments. A wider walking path was identified in the area, with paving and line painting expected to begin soon.
Unroe also addressed the upcoming referendum, telling council that the town does not need to take action on the matter. Clifton Forge falls under the county for the referendum, meaning town residents will vote on the issue during the fall election.
Progress is also being made on the Roxbury Street bridge project. Unroe said the project is ready to move into the bidding process. Residents will be made aware of the plans as the project moves forward.
The town hopes to have work begin before winter weather becomes an issue.
Unroe also addressed delays involving documents being posted to the town’s website. He said the town is aware of the issue and that the webpage management company is expected to go live by the end of August.
Once the new system is operational, the town administrator will be able to make changes to the website as needed, which is expected to make it easier for the town to keep information and documents current
