November 7, 1977- Clifton Forge's Les Tinsley catches a pass for good yardage and Covington's Donnell Ross makes the tackle during the Little Brown Jug football game Saturday night at Memorial Park in Clifton Forge. The prolonged rain stopped long enough for the game to be played and Covington kept possession of the jug by roaring to a 36-0 halftime lead and going on to win 42-6. Photo: Virginian Review

LOW MOOR, Va. (VR) – LewisGale Hospital Alleghany earned five-star ratings for treatment of heart failure, sepsis and diabetic hospitalizations in Healthgrades’ 2027 hospital evaluations, according to HCA Virginia.

The hospital received the sepsis recognition for the third consecutive year, covering 2025–2027, and the diabetic hospitalization recognition for the second straight year, covering 2026–2027. It also earned a five-star rating for heart failure treatment in 2027.

Healthgrades evaluated outcomes at more than 4,500 hospitals across more than 30 common procedures and conditions. The analysis used Medicare patient data from 2023 through 2025.

Alleghany was among nine HCA Virginia hospitals recognized in the announcement. Other LewisGale facilities receiving recognition included LewisGale Medical Center and LewisGale Hospital Montgomery.

LewisGale Medical Center ranked No. 3 in Virginia for orthopedic surgery, while Montgomery received a Pulmonary Care Excellence Award and ranked among the top 15 percent nationally for overall pulmonary services.
