COVINGTON, VA (VR) – Curtis A. Smith VFW Post 1033 and Auxiliary, located at 701 Dolly Ann Drive in Covington, Virginia, are looking for new members to join this elite group of veterans who served our country on foreign soil, as well as family members who supported them from the home front and prayed for their safe return. Sadly, not all returned, having made the ultimate sacrifice.

Membership eligibility includes veterans who served during World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, Desert Storm, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, and other qualifying conflicts. If you would like to learn more about the benefits of VFW membership, please reach out to one of our comrades.

The wheel accompanying this article illustrates the relationships that make family members eligible to join the VFW Auxiliary through a VFW-eligible veteran.

Please note that step- and adopted parents, children, siblings (including half-siblings), grandparents, and grandchildren are considered the same as biological relatives for membership purposes and may join the VFW Auxiliary under their VFW-eligible veteran.

There are many opportunities to become an active member of the organization through programs such as Veterans & Family Support, Legislative, Americanism, Hospital, and Youth Activities. We also partner with community organizations to support local youth and area nursing homes.

If you have questions, please feel free to contact any VFW Auxiliary member you know, or reach out to Marian Paxton at 843-653-6098 or marianpaxton@gmail.com.

Curtis A. Smith VFW Post 1033 and Auxiliary strive each day to assist area veterans with questions about benefits, available resources, and other needs. One of our goals is to expand our suicide prevention efforts and become even better informed about the needs of local veterans.

Please stop by and visit us on August 8 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to learn more about our organization and pick up an application to become part of this special group of veterans and their families.

While you’re in the area, take time to visit the local vendors and check out the cars during Street Scene. On Friday evening, Maggie Baugh will perform at the Jackson River Sports Complex from 6:00 to 9:30 p.m. On Saturday evening, Buddy Allen and the Cheat River Band will perform from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. Saturday’s festivities will also include games for children, a DJ, raffles, food, and many other activities.

Please come out and support Kars Unlimited and all they do for our community.
