BLACKSBURG, Va. (VR)  – Virginia Tech put together a dominant performance Wednesday evening, rolling past Delaware, 101-53, at Cassell Coliseum to earn its second consecutive victory and improve to 2-0 on the 2026-27 season.

The Hokies shot 58.6 percent from the field (41-70), scored 66 points in the paint, and forced Delaware into 23 turnovers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Virginia Tech set the tone early as Carleigh Wenzel opened the contest with a four-point play, drawing a foul on her triple just 57 seconds into the game and converting the ensuing free throw. Jessica Dimaro also made her presence felt inside immediately, collecting an offensive rebound and scoring at 7:26 to put the Hokies up, 6-2. Dimaro continued to provide a spark for Tech, scoring nine points in the opening period while connecting on four of her five field goal attempts. The Hokies closed the quarter on an 11-2 run to build a 25-10 advantage.

After Tech added five more points through the 7:46 mark, Aniya Trent sparked an 8-0 run with a basket from the block at 7:13. Samyha Suffren scored the final six points of the run to put the Hokies up, 38-13, with 5:29 left in the half. Wenzel then went on a six-point run of her own, knocking down a pair of free throws at 2:54 before capitalizing on Delaware miscues. A fast-break layup from Arianna Harris-Mott and two late free throws from Amani Jenkins helped the Hokies carry a 34-point advantage into the break, 53-19.

Leila Wells opened the second half with a three-pointer, and the Hokies continued to capitalize on opportunities in transition. Suffren scored consecutive baskets following a pair of defensive plays, pushing the advantage to 60-20 with 7:31 remaining. Alyssa Latham added a layup at 5:40 between two baskets by the Blue Hens. Another Wenzel triple at 3:39, followed by interior scoring from Jenkins at 2:21, pushed the advantage to 77-30. Dimaro scored Tech’s final points of the period on a finish in the paint with 50 seconds left, and the Hokies headed into the fourth quarter with an 81-35 lead.

Suffren and Jenkins continued to find opportunities inside during the final stanza, while Kaleo Anderson contributed on both ends of the floor with a second-chance basket at 8:55, a fast-break layup at 4:33 and a pair of blocks. Virginia Tech’s depth was on display down the stretch, with Natalee Goff scoring her first basket as a Hokie with 3:53 remaining. Kate Sears connected on a three-pointer at 2:52, and Francesca Baldassarre added a fast-break layup at 2:01 to bring the Hokies to the doorstep of the century mark. Harris-Mott delivered the final basket, finishing inside with 45 seconds left to seal Virginia Tech’s 101-53 win over the Blue Hens.
