HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison women’s tennis was ranked seventh in the final 2026 Intercollege Tennis Association Atlantic Regional ranking while Daria Munteanu was #16 in singles and the doubles team of Brooklyn Hoffmann and Sophie Williams was #9, the organization announced Wednesday.
This is the second straight season that JMU produced rankings as a team, a singles individual and a doubles tandem. This is the third straight year Munteanu finished the season holding the #16 spot in the Atlantic region, while Williams repeated at #9 in the doubles rankings, which she shared with former Duke Ines Oliveira a year ago.

JMU finished the 2026 spring campaign with a 12-11 overall record and reached the Sun Belt Conference Championship quarterfinals as the No. 9 seed. In region play, JMU finished with a 6-3 record, highlighted by wins over Virginia Tech and VCU. Its three regional defeats came at the hands of Sun Belt champion ODU (#3), Sun Belt runner-up Marshall (#5) and NCAA qualifier Maryland (#2).

Munteanu was a Second Team All-Sun Belt singles selection after going 17-15 in singles play, including a 9-11 mark on court one. She capped off her career ranking in the top 10 of all three wins lists at JMU – sixth in doubles wins (65), seventh in total wins (135) and tied for eighth in singles wins (70).

Hoffmann and Williams turned in a 15-7 doubles record, including 13-6 during dual-match play, competing every match on court one. The two were voted First Team All-Sun Belt and set a single-season program record with five conference doubles team of the week accolades.
