ALEGHANY COUNTY, VA (VR) – On Tuesday, April 28th, VFW Post 1033 auxiliary members visited Boys Home to award certificates and prizes to the youth who participated in our art contests this year.

3-D Patriotic Arts contest – 1st place winner Justin Meja

Illustrating America – 1st place winner Kwasi Appiah

Illustrating America – 2nd place winner Augustine Hopper

Illustrating America Honorable Mention – Carter Montgomery and Darian Rooke

Over the years Boys Home has participated in all arts and Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen contests with multiple winners. This year the first-place winners had their entries submitted to the Department of Virginia for judging at their state convention May 27-30, 2026. Way to go Boys Home. Good luck.

VFW Post 1033 and auxiliary appreciate all that Boys Home does for our post that helps us touch the lives of so many veterans. Boys Home was also recognized with the Auxiliary’s Youth Group Supporting our Veterans award for their participation in our Valentines for Veterans program this year.  Boys Home, under the leadership of Chris Doyle, has been a very active group in the Alleghany Highlands Community with their volunteer efforts. Thank you Boys Home and Laura Costigan for all you did to help with this and all projects. Laura is the Donor Relations Manager and Key Club Adviser and a tremendous help to VFW Post 1033 Auxiliary.
