COVINGTON, Va. (VR) –  Family, friends, coaches and teammates gathered Sunday at the Boodie Albert Field House to dedicate a memorial bench in honor of Owen Dean Burch, whose impact on those around him continues to be remembered.

The ceremony, held May 17, recognized Burch’s memory with the placement of a bench outside the field house near the start of the ramp.

Senior Adoption project coordinator Cary Linkswiler opened the dedication, telling those in attendance that Owen should be preparing for graduation and taking part in senior activities alongside his classmates.

“Though his time here was far too short, the impact he made will never fade,” Linkswiler said, adding that Burch’s smile, humor, friendship and determination continue to inspire those who knew him.

Alleghany head football coach Will Fields and senior Carter Nicely unveiled the bench during the ceremony. Linkswiler also thanked Lisa Worley and the Covington Parks and Recreation team for assisting with placement and installation of the memorial.

Following the dedication, those in attendance were invited to share some of Burch’s favorite snacks as family and friends gathered to remember him.
