BRIDGEWATER, Va. (VR) – Bridgewater College senior Gabe Miller has been named the recipient of the Geisert Scholar-Athlete Award, given annually to one male and one female senior who excel in both academics and athletics during their careers at the college. The award is given to the athlete with the highest cumulative GPA among senior student-athletes.

Miller earned the honor after a consistent four-year run as one of Bridgewater’s top performers in cross country and track and field distance events. In cross country, Miller led Bridgewater in every meet during his senior season, posting three top-10 finishes and winning the Bridgewater Cross Country Invitational.

He also delivered consistent production throughout his career:

In 2023, Miller cruised to a win in the 6k Eagle Cross Country Challenge in 21:14.0. He posted a season-best 8k time of 26:42.7 at the Interregional Border Battle and scored at the NCAA Division III South Regional Championship, clocking 26:59.8.

In 2022, he finished third at the Bridgewater Invitational, recorded a season-best 8k time of 26:37.8 at the Paul Short Run, and competed in six events during his debut season.

On the track in 2025, Miller competed across multiple distance events, including the 1,500, 5,000, and 10,000 meters. He placed seventh in the 10,000 at the ODAC Outdoor Championships with a personal-best time of 32:33.22, a mark that ranks third all-time in program history. He also posted a personal best of 4:16.13 in the 1,500 at the EMU Invitational and ran 15:37.65 in the 5,000 at the Washington & Lee Carnival.

During the indoor season, Miller competed in the mile, 3,000, and 5,000 meters. He ran a personal-best 4:34.30 in the mile at the Rockingham Classic and 8:59.43 in the 3,000 at the Brant Tolsma Invitational, a time that ranks seventh in program history. He also ran on Bridgewater’s distance medley relay team that placed fourth at the ODAC Indoor Championships.

Before his collegiate career, Miller competed at Alleghany High School, where he was part of a 2020 team cross country championship. He added a 2021 outdoor 4×800 relay championship and a 2022 indoor 1,600-meter championship.

A 2022 graduate of Alleghany High School, Miller is the son of Beth and Jay Woodson of Covington. After graduation, he will continue his education at Wake Forest University.
