WAYNESBORO — The Covington Lumberjacks continued their midseason slide here Friday night.
Ethan Cady (East Tennessee State) slugged a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth to give Waynesboro the lead for good in a 15-9 Valley League triumph over the Jacks.
Six different Covington pitchers were tagged with 12 hits and 15 runs.
The Jacks have lost five of their last six.
Domenic Boselli (George Washington) homered and drove in five for the Lumberjacks.
Jonathan Barditch (Manhat-tan) added three hits, while Christian Torres (UMBC) had two.
Cady drove in four for Waynesboro, who leads the VBL’s Southern Division after winning five straight.
Kobe Lopez (Florida International) also homered for the winners.
Jan Figueroa (Florida International) earned the win on the mound for the Generals, not allowing an earned run in three innings of relief.
The Lumberjacks are now 11-10 as they reached the halfway point in their 42-game regular season schedule.
Covington’s Thursday game at Front Royal was rained out after two innings and will be made up on Monday night.
The Lumberjacks are off today and host New Market in a Sunday doubleheader at Casey Field. First pitch for game one is at 5 p.m.
