COVINGTON, Va. (VR) - Covington’s girls basketball season ended with a 51-45 loss to Parry McCluer in the 1995 Pioneer District tournament semifinals at DSLCC.
The Cougars trailed 20-14 at halftime before rallying to tie the game at 32 entering the fourth quarter. The Fighting Blues answered with a 19-13 finish to eliminate Covington for the second straight year.
Michelle Jeter closed her high school career with 20 points, including an 8-for-11 effort at the foul line. Joann Helton added 15 points, while Charity Tyree scored six. Lindsay Coleman led Parry McCluer with 16.
Coach Rob Bennett’s Cougars finished 11-11 after winning seven of their final nine games. Bennett praised the team’s effort and recognized seniors Jeter, Staci Venable and Trish Rayle for their contributions.
“I’m still proud of these girls. The effort was tremendous — it was the hardest-fought game I’ve seen,” Bennett said.
