In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his mother- and father-in-law, Pauline and Paul Terry, Sr.; two sisters-in-law, Paula Smith and Jenny Sherron; and a brother-in-law, Paul Terry, Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Terry Taliaferro , a daughter, Karyn Pullen (Bucky), and a son, James W. Taliaferro, Jr. (Lisa), all of Clifton Forge; a sister, Patricia Fitzgerald of Charlottesville; two brothers, Ricky Taliaferro (Linda) of Winchester and Doug Taliaferro (Denia) of Selma; three grandchildren, Kayla Wright (Dillon), Jackson Pullen, and Jacob Taliaferro; four sisters-in-law, Paulette Terry, Peggy Nelson, Betty Layton, and Roxane Unroe; a brother-in-law, Roger “Pete” Terry; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated.  A memorial service will be conducted on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Mount Carmel Methodist Church in Covington, VA with Reverend Doug Hollenbeck officiating. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday morning at the church, from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
