Stanley Walton “Stan” Nicely, Jr.

Stanley Walton “Stan” Nicely, Jr., age 75, of Clifton Forge, Virginia died on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at the Brian Center Health & Rehabilitation Center, Low Moor.

Stan was born on January 22, 1950 in the Nettleton Addition area of Clifton Forge to the late Stanley Walton Nicely, Sr. and Virginia Margaret Pearl Fridley Nicely Wilmer. He was a graduate of Clifton Forge High School and served in the United States Navy from 1972 until 1976. He later attended Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, and received his Bachelor degree from James Madison University. He was a conductor for CSX Transportation, retiring after 23 years, and was a member of the Clifton Forge Masonic Lodge # 166 A.F. & A.M. He enjoyed playing guitar, watching football, spending time with his family, and talking with friends.

In addition to his parents, Stan was preceded in death by his wife, Regina Hostetter Nicely; his brother, Michael Lee Nicely and his stepfather, Raymond Wilmer.

He is survived by three daughters, Teresa Vest Roberts of North Carolina, Penny Vest Brewster (Jerry) of Covington, and Amanda Rachel Morris (Tommy) of Covington; a son, Matthew Shannon Rivera (Cindy) of Florida; eleven grandchildren, John Roberts (Samantha), Emily Roberts, Garrett Brewster (Abby), Graham Brewster, Graycin Brewster, Jeffrey Callaham II, Taela Rivera, Kamden Burns, Keegan Morris, Kolson Morris, and Devan Rivera; four great grandchildren, and special friends, Bobby Knick and Pete Reid.

In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held on Monday evening, February 24, 2025 at 5:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Mr. Chris Fisher officiating. Masonic rites will be conducted by members of the Clifton Forge Masonic Lodge 166 A. F. & A. M. The family will visit with friends on Monday from 4:00 PM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
