On Monday, this week’s Regional High School Basketball rankings came out as Alleghany’s boys and girls’ teams remain destined for regional playoff appearances in Region 3C.

The top 12 team reach the regional tournament, while the top 4 teams earn first-round byes.

This week the Alleghany (13-5) boys team comes in at No. 5 in the rankings. If the season were to end today the Cougars would host the No. 12 ranked Turner Ashby Knights. Plenty of time left for team rankings to go up and down.

Remaining at the top of the regional rankings was Western Albemarle, followed by Staunton, Spotswood, and rounding out the top 4 Wilson Memorial.

Meanwhile the Alleghany (12-4) girls team heads into this week ranked No. 7. And if we’re playing potential playoff matches, if the season ended today the Cougars would host a first-round regional game against Rockbridge who come into this week ranked No. 10.

The top of the girls’ rankings is almost similar to the boys with a few shuffling spots. The No. 1 ranking this week belongs to Spotswood, followed by Western Albemarle, Liberty Christian Academy, and Wilson Memorial who round out the top 4.
