STAUNTON- The Alleghany Cougars did not finish their opening golf match at Gypsy Hill Park like they had hoped after placing in eighth place, but there were some positives to build on for the young Cougars.

While coach Archie Lemon knows the ups and downs will be there, it won’t stop him from believing in his team.

“Challenging day on the links as we had four players playing in their first varsity match, while others were still on family vacation. This will be a rebuilding year for Alleghany. We lost our top four players from last year’s team. However, having teams that are young in experience bodes well for the next few years,” Lemon said.

The coach is also extremely excited to have four young ladies on the course this season.

“Another first is that we have 4 girls playing golf this year! Many teams are co-ed in golf and it’s exciting to see the girls playing golf and learning right alongside the guys,” he stated.
