Roger Dale Hite

Roger Dale Hite, 78, of Marl Bank Farm, Loretto, Virginia passed away peacefully surrounded by his girls on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. He was a U S Army Vietnam Veteran, receiving a Purple Heart during his service. Roger was a retired employee of NSWC-Dahlgren. He loved the outdoors, hunting, golfing, horseback riding and traveling. Roger was a man of strong faith, a proud husband, father and Pop.

He is survived by his wife Isabella Baylor Bowe Hite; two children Isabella Brooke Hite Sanders and Katherine Blake Hite Slusser (Marshall); five grandchildren Lewis Allen Ginn, John Baird “Jack” Slusser, Baylor Haywood Sanders, Henry McIntosh Slusser and Anne Wythe Slusser; his siblings Maxine, Connie, Wayne and Ronnie, the rest of his Hite-Combs-Snead family, Randal Ginn, Branden Sanders, Lennie Bowe Shirley, and other family members and friends that were very special to him. He is preceded in death by his mother, Ella Goldie Sloan (Charles), his father, Basil Wallace Snead, and his siblings, Bryon, Gary and Jean and his nephew, Shane.

Roger was a loyal and active member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 31 years. He loved the recovery program and everyone in the fellowship – always welcoming and respecting everyone he met. He always did his best to help others, he could be tough but was always fair, and had a gift of sharing the spiritual aspect and values of the 12-step recovery program. He helped others understand it, and demonstrated it in the way he lived his life. Most importantly, he inspired countless others to do the same.

The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Vauter’s Episcopal Church, 3661 Tidewater Trail, Loretto, Virginia 22509. The family will receive family and friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 7 in the parish house at Vauter’s Episcopal Church. A memorial service will be held in Clifton Forge, Virginia at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to support recovery efforts of, the Middle Peninsula Northern Neck Behavioral Health, Recovery Services-MPNNBH, P.O. Box 544, VA 22572.
