Walter Lewis Burgandine, age 85, of 1013 Venus Way, Clifton Forge died Sunday, December 20, 2009 at his residence.
He was born on January 22, 1924 in Clifton Forge, a son of the late William Henry and Margaret Brown Burgandine. Walter served in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theatre in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was a retired serviceman for Columbia Gas Company of Virginia and a member of Central United Methodist Church, where he was in the Men’s Bible Class. He was also a member of the Clifton Forge Moose Lodge # 1683.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lee Carter Burgandine, five sisters, and three brothers.
He is survived by four sisters, Mary Burgandine of Fort Myers, FL, Nellie Smith or Richmond, Eloise Tucker of Reidville, and Maria Brackenridge of Fort Walton Beach, FL and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Barry Burkholder officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home.
