Fred Lee Semones, 56, of 224 McDonald Ave., died, Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, at Alleghany Regional Hospital.

He was born April 12, 1953, in Covington, a son of the late Charles and Mary Deffinbaugh Semones.

Mr. Semones was a veteran of the U.S Marine Corps, serving during the Vietnam War. He was discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1988 after 20 years of combined service with the two branches of the military.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Campbell Semones; and one sister, Frankie Haley.

Surviving are six daughters, Renea Semones of Indianapolis, Ind., Linda Gail Amus of North Dakota, Sherry and Sean Bova of Colorado, Melissa Semones and Wendy Semones, both of Escondido, Calif., and Thressia Fink of Grottoes; 12 grandchildren; five sisters, Linda Hosey of Gloucester, Betty and Danny Kendall of New Castle; Dorcas and James Martin of Barstow, Calif., Sue Lawson of Staffordsville, and Peggy and Robert Richards of Jacksonville, N.C.; several nieces and nephews and his two ex-wives, Charlene Pierce and Wanda Costello.

A funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Narrows at 2 p.m. with graveside rites conducted by Giles County area veterans.

Friends may pay their respects at Arritt Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home.
