Carolyn Thomas Barnette, age 82, of 718 Old Verge Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at her son’s residence in Roanoke, Virginia.
Carolyn was born on January 7, 1942 to the late William and Lillie Burrell Thomas. She retired from MeadWestvaco as an Administrative Assistant in research. She was a member of Main Street Baptist Church in Clifton Forge, where she served as treasurer, as well as on the deaconess board and usher board. Carolyn was very active in her community as a member of the Clifton Forge City Council, Alleghany County Board of Supervisors, member of the Alleghany County School Board, and Treasurer of Berean Valley Baptist Association. She was a proud graduate of Averitt University with a Bachelor’s degree in business.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Matthew Theodore Barnette, Sr., and a sister, Dorothy Johnson.
She is survived by three sons, Matthew Barnette, Jr. of Roanoke, Noel Barnette of Roanoke, and Gregory Barnette of Greensboro, N.C.; a daughter, Brandy Barnette of Charlotte, N.C.; four sisters Lillie Hughes, Shirley Mansfield (Reverend Ed), Priscilla Thomas, and Gloria Roland (Frank), all of Clifton Forge; three brothers, Charles Thomas of Clifton Forge, Ronnie Thomas of West Palm Beach, FL, and Norman Thomas
(Roberta) of Covington; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 11:00 AM in Main Street Baptist Church, Clifton Forge with Reverend Arlene Cooper officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain ViewCemetery, Clifton Forge. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 21, 2024 from 5:00 PM until 7:00PM at Nicely Funeral Home.
