PEARISBURG – Bath County’s 2024 high school boys soccer season came to an end last Thursday following a 3-0 loss to Giles in a Class 1, Region C quarterfinal in Pearisburg.
The Spartans out of the Mountain Empire District came into their contest with the Chargers winners of six of their previous seven matches, were pushed to their limit during the first half as GHS was in check and off of the scoreboard.
Defensively through the first 40 minutes of the match Bath County’s defense was stellar, but the team could not use it to their advantage offensively as Giles also kept the Chargers scoreless.
In the second half Giles would take full control as they grabbed scores from Gavin Miller, Trevor Ratcliffe, and Cam Hansen which would be more than enough for the Spartans to advance to the regional semifinals.
As GHS took over in the second half, the Chargers offense just could not find any answers as the team was shut out for a second straight playoff game and were held scoreless for a fourth straight half. BCHS finished with five shots on goal.
Senior goalkeeper Frankie DeBoe arguably played his best in the goal of the season during the first half as he held the high-octane Giles out of the nets. DeBoe finished with 16 total saves.
Bath County finished the season 7-10 overall.
