LOW MOOR – In a one-match playoff to determine the Pioneer District regular season tennis champions, Bath County edged Parry McCluer 5-3 to win the district championship on Wednesday, May 8th at Clifton Academy.
The Fighting Blues, who had lost to the Chargers 6-3 on April 30th, had forced the one-match playoff with a 5-4 win the day prior on Tuesday in Buena Vista.
The one-match playoff kicked off with BCHS taking two out of three in doubles. Then in singles competition, Abbey Phillips and Sophie Ailstock, who won in doubles, also won in singles, along with Brooke Hess.
The singles match between McKenna Hickman (PMHS) and Alyssa DePoppe (BCHS) did not conclude due to the contest having already been won by the Chargers. Hickman did hold a lead at the time prior to the match stopping.
It was the second year in a row that Bath County won the district title against Parry McCluer.
