Hot Springs, Va, April 3, 2024 – The James River Warm Springs Ranger District of the George Washington – Jefferson National Forest is seeking volunteers to assist at the Bolar Mountain Recreation Area in Bath County for the 2024 summer season.
While all volunteers are welcome, the Bolar Mountain Recreation Area needs campground hosts. “Campground hosts are incredible volunteers that help make Lake Moomaw a special experience. They help make campers feel welcome and “at home” by sharing information about the area, keeping the campground tidy with minor maintenance tasks, and being a friendly face for visitors”, said District Ranger Kevin Kyle.
Campground hosts are offered full hookup campsites and reimbursements for fuel and propane expenses. All volunteers who contribute 250 hours for the year are eligible to receive the Interagency America the Beautiful Pass, which waives entrance fees at all national parks and select recreation sites on National Forest Lands.
Multiple positions are open including campground hosts, maintenance helpers, and information booth attendants at Lake Moomaw. No prior experience is required. All training, tools, and personal protective equipment will be provided by the Forest Service. Some positions require valid driver’s license and a background check. All positions require that volunteers be 18 years or older.
Volunteer positions will start in early May and end in early September to prepare and assist with the open recreation season running May 22 through September 4. Interested applicants may apply at volunteer.gov by searching keyword “Lake Moomaw” or directly contacting the James River and Warm Springs District.
