LOW MOOR – The Alleghany Cougars boys’ and girls’ basketball seasons might be over, but the accolades keep coming in.
Three area boys and girls’ basketball players were named to the All-Region 3C teams.
Bryce Leitch was the lone Cougar of the trio to be named to the all-region first team. The junior guard kept AHS as close as she could in the teams 42-28 first-round loss to Spotswood. Leitch led all scorers that game with 13 points and bumped her season total to 10.7 points per game.
Senior Macyn Cash was named to the all-region girls second team. While Cash was held to only five points in the first round against the Trailblazers, the senior guard led the Lady Cougars in scoring with 11.1 points per game for the season. Cash was also the team’s leader in steals with just under four a game at 3.7, while also leading the team in assists with 2.5 a contest.
The Alleghany boy’s basketball team was represented by senior Chris Harden who earned the all-region boys second team honors. In the Cougars 79-34 regional first-round loss to the eventual regional champion Western Albemarle, Harden scored a team-high 11 points. For the season Harden led AHS in scoring with 11 points per game and also led the team in rebounds with just under five a game at 4.6.
Liberty Christian Academy’s Avery Miller was named the girls regional basketball player of the year, while the Bulldogs head coach Heather Stephens was named the regional girls coach of the year.
Spotswood’s junior Cam Pacheco was named the boys regional player of the year, while Western Albemarle’s head coach Darren Maynard was named the regional boys coach of the year.
