Covington City Council Working to Further Social Equity and Equality in City
(June 1, 2020, Covington, VA) If 2020 has taught the members of Covington City Council anything, it’s that a sense of “community” in the City of Covington is more important now than ever before.
Covington City Council, the City of Covington and its leaders are committed to serving the needs and providing for the safety and well-being of every resident — with an aggressive call for social equity and fairness for all races, sexes, socio-economic backgrounds and religions.
The recent violence and dissention in other communities in Virginia and beyond have shown us that we, as the entire Highlands region, need now – more than ever – to come together as a “community” and face head-on the issues and concerns that prevent all of our residents from being the community we all want to be and the community we all deserve to enjoy.
City leaders – as well as other area stakeholders – have reached out to our neighbors in Alleghany County, Clifton Forge and Iron Gate to begin that work and create solutions that will impact the Highlands today and for generations to come.
