Bath County rallies from 14pts down to stun East Mont.
HOT SPRINGS – Playing in their fifth home game in their last six games on Monday night, January 29th, Bath County rallied from a 14-point fourth quarter deficit to stun Eastern Montgomery 64-63 in a Pioneer District basketball contest in Hot Springs.
Trailing 63-61, Luke Turner received the pass down low in the paint from Andrew Turner and as he turned around to shoot the ball, he was fouled on the shot as the ball bounced off the backboard and through the net to tie the game with 2.3 seconds left. Turner would knock down the game’s biggest free throw to put the Chargers ahead 64-63.
Eastern Montgomery (4-12, 3-5 Pioneer District) who once led by 14 points with six minutes left to go in the fourth quarter did not even get a chance to potentially win the game. Following the made free throw by Turner, the Mustangs inbounds pass was intercepted by Frankie DeBoe who ran the final seconds out to seal the win for Bath County.
The come from behind win for Bath County (9-9, 2-5 Pioneer District) was the teams ninth overall and their second in the district.
The Chargers were led by A. Turner, L. Turner, and Issac Ingram as the trio combined to score 55 of the teams 64 total points. A. Turner led the team in scoring with a team-high 20 points, while L. Turner scored 18, and Ingram added 17.
Despite a tough loss for Eastern Montgomery, it was a big night for Talan Bruce as he scored a game-high 22 points, including six 3-pointers. Cam Sutphin added 20.
The win was the Chargers second in their last three games and was a redemption victory from an earlier season loss to the Mustangs back on December 12th in Elliston where EMHS were 70-55 victors.
