Terri Marsh Kerns
Terri Marsh Kerns, 59, formerly of Covington, VA, passed peacefully on Sunday, December 31st, 2023, while under the care of Shenandoah Hospice.
Terri was born July 6, 1964, in Covington, VA, daughter of the late Delbert D. (DD) and Ruth Pence Kerns. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother Gerald David (Joe) Kerns, a sister Marjorie (Margie) Faye Kerns Clark, brother-in-law, William Clark and an infant sister.
Terri moved to Staunton, VA in 2021 to reside with her sister, Vickie and niece, Linsey where they held a special bond. Prior to her parents’ death, she lived at her childhood home in Dry Run. Terri lived a very full life engaged with family fun, swimming in her pool, boat riding on Lake Moomaw and special rides in her dad’s cars. Terri also enjoyed multiple years in Special Olympics and their many social events, time at the Alleghany Highlands Life Skills Center and horse-back riding with Hoof Beats Therapeutic Riding Center. Terri was an active member of Mt. Carmel Methodist Church where she was known for her joyful singing, warm hugs, and big smiles. Terri was greatly loved and valued by her family, her church family and family of friends and caregivers. Terri was loved as she loved others. Terri and her family were blessed to have had so many special caregivers throughout the years. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to those caregivers and the local service agencies dedicated to providing quality care to those with special needs.
Terri is survived and lovingly remembered by her extended family: brother Delbert L Kerns and wife Vickie; brother Richard D Kerns and wife Belinda; sister Vickie M Kerns; sister-in-law Deb Kerns; nephews Gary W Clark; William and wife Medallion Clark; Johnathan Clark; Christian Kerns and wife Amber, children Olivia and partner Nate Rhodes, Ian, Sawyer and Evelyn; Justin Kerns and wife Carrie, children Bianca, Jabriah, Quinnton, Ava, Zebriah and Ezekial; Philip Kerns and wife Angee, children Chiara, Siena and Declan; nieces Andrea Dilley-Frame and husband Christopher, daughter Chelsea; Linsey Dilley, Alyssa Jarratt and partner Crystal Boudreaw; Demi Jarratt and partner Justin Lowen.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 3rd in the sanctuary of Mt. Carmel Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Hollenback and Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating. The family will receive visitors beginning at 12:30 pm with the service beginning at 2 pm. Interment will be in Alleghany Memorial Park following the service.
Pallbearers will be members of Mt. Carmel Methodist Church. Terri’s nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be given in Terri’s memory to Area 18 Special Olympics, mail funds to Cyndi Givens, 305 S. Craig Ave., Covington or contact Ms. Givens through Facebook.
