Dear Editor,

I appreciate your article in the December 12 Virginian Review about local food pantries. For the benefit of your readers and our donors I must clarify that the correct name of the food pantry housed in South Covington United Methodist Church is South Covington Care Pantry. This change was made in 2009 because of the downturn in the economy we were forced to look outside of our own church for funding to accommodate the increasing number of applicants seeking our assistance for food. We are fortunate and blessed to now be supported by local churches of various denominations, local industry, local civic organizations, and many generous individuals who support our mission in the Alleghany Highlands. Another vital factor is our partnership with Feeding Southwest Virginia.

Tax deductible donations should continue to be made to South Covington Care Pantry, 1911 S. Kadel Avenue, Covington VA 24426.

One further clarification: While we have suspended donations of adult clothing, we continue to accept children’s clothing and toys, as well as household goods.

Thank you for the coverage you give our area and for permitting this important clarification. Please reach out to me if there are any questions or concerns about our pantry.

On behalf of our Care Pantry Team, I wish you many blessings this Christmas season and into the coming New Year.

Sincerely,

Linda Black
