In a recent article, the Virginian Review announced a donation drive for the Alleghany County Humane Society. The Humane Society is located at located on 9313 Rich Patch Road in Covington and is in constant need of supplies for the many cats and dogs they shelter. As such, the Virginian Review has partnered with them in an effort to help with the everyday essentials required for caring for the numerous dogs and cats in their care. The items most needed include:
- Squeaky toys and balls for the dogs and cats
- Dog treats and “Temptations” cat treats
- Purina Dog Chow Complete
- Purina Kitten Chow (in the yellow bag)
- Purina Cat Chow (in the blue bag)
- Alpo or Pedigree canned dog food
- Friskies canned cat food
- Monetary support
It is our desire to assist the Alleghany Humane Society in their endeavors to raise 500 items and we’re asking the community’s help and support to reach this attainable goal. If you are able to donate any of the above-listed items, please bring them down to the Virginian Review office located at 201 West Locust Street in Covington. We thank the community in advance for your kind donations.
For those who are able to go the extra mile and adopt, there are always animals at the shelter looking for forever homes. In most cases, the shelter is overflowing with unwanted or abandoned pets who have never known the beauty of love and family and so, the Alleghany Humane Society is always in need of items. If you’re looking to potentially adopt, it should be noted that all animals who are adopted from the Humane Society have already been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.
To begin the adoption process, one should visit https://alleghanyhumane.org to view available pets and fill out the adoption form. Once it has been reviewed and approved, an appointment will then be made to visit the animal and finalize the adoption process.
Please call the Alleghany Humane Society at 540-862-2436 for additional information or visit their Facebook page. For further information on our donation drive, please stop by our office or call us at 540-962-2121. Thanks again!
