HOT SPRINGS – After dropping two straight away games, the Bath County Chargers (6-4) returned back home to Charger Arena with a vengeance and delivered a straight-set Pioneer District victory over the Eastern Montgomery Mustangs on Tuesday, September 12th.
It was all about the opening set that essentially set the pace for the rest of the game.
Bath County held onto a tight back and forth 25-22 first set victory that had seen 12 different lead changes.
With the first set tied 20-20, the set’s most crucial point came on a combined Caleigh Hazelwood and Kenley Smith block which put Bath County up 21-20. The Chargers would not relinquish the lead again as Smith delivered back-to-back kills to put Eastern Montgomery away for good.
The Chargers would go on to cruise to win the second and third sets.
In a bounce-back win, Hannah Armstrong delivered a big-time performance for Bath County as she led the way with 21 digs. Delaney Hicklin and Lindsay Oliver paced the now six-win Chargers with eight kills apiece. Meanwhile, Smith, who had a few key kills, was once again the assist leader with a match-high 16.
The rematch between the two programs will be on Tuesday, October 3rd in Ellston.
