Betty Jane Clarke Stull
Betty Stull, 87, passed away suddenly at her home the evening of September 12, 2023. A lifelong resident of Alleghany County, Betty was born August 23, 1936, to John Henning Clarke & Minnie Enola Noel Clarke who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her son, Michael Allen Stull, former husband Fred Bradley Stull & siblings Peggy Crawford, Rena Wilmer, Robert Clarke, John Clarke, Gerald Clarke & Joyce Knighton.
A graduate of Covington High School, Betty worked in the office of Leggett Department Store before moving on to work in the Commissioner of Revenue office for the City of Covington. Following her retirement in 2004, Betty led a simple life. A voracious reader, she traveled the world through her books & lived vicariously through her family whom she adored. She also had a great passion for nature, her many flowers & plants & monitoring the local weather.
Betty is survived by three children, Deborah Stull Smith & husband Henry of Charlottesville, VA, son Charles Bradley Stull & wife Tammy of Mt. Solon, VA, son Brian Scott Stull & wife Nicole of Dayton, OH, grandchildren Walker & Landon Smith, Ashley, Logan & Lucas Stull & Vanessa Ritchie, & great grandchildren Malaina, Kayla & Colton Ritchie. Also surviving are her very special twin sister Barbara Flint, loving brother Tom Clarke & numerous nieces & nephews.
The family will celebrate Betty’s life with visitation Saturday, September 23, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home, Covington, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty’s memory to The Presbyterian Children’s Home of the Highlands, PO Box 545, Wytheville, VA, 24382, The National Arthritis Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
