It’s interesting a thing you can learn about someone when they trust you enough to tell you their dirty little secrets. What is far more interesting are the dirty little secrets they will tell when they believe you aren’t listening. Such is the case for our first subject.
Rumor has it that a local business owner recently made a phone call to another business owner to discuss a private matter. Upon having concluded the conversation, the initiator of the call then proceeded to hang up the phone. However, the receiver quickly noticed that the initiator failed to end the call. The initiator then proceeded to obnoxiously carry on another conversation. With whom? Neither the receiver of the call nor the Shadow can tell you the answer. An employee? Customer? Maybe even oneself.
The initiator may not be aware, but the receiver was quick to grab a recorder that picked up the initiator’s conversation. However, “conversation” may not be the appropriate term.
Perhaps aggressive or hate-fueled would be more accurate in describing the initiator’s language. Their tirade, according to the receiver, lasted well over 5 minutes. 5+ minutes of derogatory dialect spewed by the initiator as their mouth ran amuck, harping on different folks in town, including graphic language about a former mayor. The receiver could only listen, open-mouthed as they recorded the sickening oral vomit.
Today’s edition of the Shadow comes with a bit of free advice. While I am certainly no Miss Manners, I can suggest that if you are going to erupt in a volcano of offensive, “colorful” language with regards to a former Mayor or spout distasteful rubbish about the townsfolk, some of whom keep your little shop alive, The Shadow highly recommends you ensure the call has ended first.
