HOT SPRINGS – The Bath County Chargers kicked off their 2023 volleyball season with a Tuesday evening home loss to the James River Knights in straight sets.

While Bath County opened up the season with a tough non-district loss at home, the team came out competing until the very end, all while keeping each match relatively close.

In the first set, James River kept its distance from the Chargers throughout the set and wound up with a 25-17 first set victory.

Momentum from the first set victory did not carry over right away for the Knights as Bath County built up a slim early 4-3 lead.

Trailing for the first time in the matchup, James River dug down and quickly erased a 4-3 deficit within moments and scored nine straight points to take a commanding 12-4 lead. The Knights wound up taking the second set 25-15.

Bath County who trailed for majority of their entire match against James River found themselves down early to the Knights in what turned out to be the third and final set as the Knights ran away victorious with a 25-13 win.

Shining Chargers, Lindsay Oliver led the team with three kills, while Hannah Armstrong provided the team with 50 digs and a team-high five assists.
