COVINGTON – The Covington Lumberjacks (9-7) are rolling as of late as they notched their fourth straight win following a 9-2 victory over the Waynesboro Generals at Casey Field Thursday, June 29th.
It was a big day at the plate for Logan Braunschweig who had a team-high three RBI’s. With the Lumberjacks already ahead by four runs, Braunschweig helped his team add two more runs in the sixth inning following a two-run double which put the Jacks’ ahead 6-0. Braunschweig had previously helped the team take a 4-0 lead in the third inning with an RBI single, the first of his three RBIs..
Michael Pavelchak added a two-hit day at the plate for Covington to go along with a pair of RBIs which came in the bottom of the eighth inning. Pavelchak ripped a two-run single which put the Lumberjacks ahead 8-1. Pavelchak also had a stolen base but was caught stealing twice.
Meanwhile, Gabriel Miranda and Edinson Renteria Jr. each had a game-high three hits for Covington as they both were 3-for-4 at the plate. Chenar Brown who had one hit in the game had jump started the scoring for the Lumberjacks with his first home run of the season in the bottom of the second inning as the team took a 1-0 lead.
On the mound Grant Adams pitched sensation for Covington as he picked up his first win of the season. Adams pitched his longest outing for the year as he tossed five shutout innings where he gave up just two hits, struck out six, and walked only one batter.
Waynesboro was held to five total team hits. Max Smyley was the only General to have an RBI in the loss. Jackson Kent suffered the loss after lasting just two innings where he gave up a pair of runs (one earned), two hits. The Generals left 10 on base.
