Charlotte McClune Johnson Stull
Charlotte McClune Johnson Stull, 85, of 300 Hooks Mill Lane, Covington, died Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke. She was the wife of Earl Linwood Stull Jr., to whom she was married for 67 years.
Charlotte was born on April 21, 1938, in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late Ivan Randall Johnson Sr. and Nellie Elizabeth “Rachel” Jackson Johnson.
A lifelong resident of the area, she was a member of Rich Patch Union Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and church historian. She was predominantly a homemaker, but in her early years, she worked for Citizens National Bank and for the Alleghany County Treasurer’s Office under Treasurer Dot Brown. In the community, she served as treasurer of the Alleghany Highlands Genealogical Society for many years and loved to sew, read and go flea marketing. She was also a proud 27-year breast cancer survivor.
In addition to her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Deanna (Dee Dee) Simpson, Elizabeth Danyell Smith and Earl Dalton (Jack) Stull; one brother, Ivan Randall Johnson Jr., and seven sisters, Helen J. Poague, Mamie J. Byer, Irene J. Fisher, Ethel J. Crowder, Reba J. Robinson Kelly, Louise Johnson and Gladys Johnson.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by four sons, Ivan Linwood Stull of Gum Springs, Myron Joe Stull (Windy), Meade Allen Stull (Beth) and George Hammond Stull, all of Rich Patch; two daughters, Linda Stull Boggs of Falling Spring and Carmen Stull Smith, and husband, Judd, of Rich Patch; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Audrey Johnson Wiley, of Callaghan, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Robert McRae and Rev. Shane Hiner officiating. Interment will follow in King Stull Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Michael Boggs Jr., Riley Smith, Rusty Stull, Jackson Stull, Trey Ritter, Kyle Stull and Gracie Stull.
The family will receive friends Monday, July 10, from 6-8 p.m., in the chapel of Loving Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorial tributes in lieu of flowers be made in Charlotte’s name to Rich Patch Union Church, 7410 Roaring Run Road, Covington, Va. 24426.
