FRONT ROYAL – At the cite of the 2023 VBL All-Star Game at Bing Crosby Stadium, the Covington Lumberjacks (4-6) dropped their second straight game following a 5-3 loss to the Front Royal Cardinals on Tuesday, June 13th.

Front Royal jumped out to a five-run lead after four innings. It was a lead they would maintain throughout the game despite Covington putting together their only scoring run output of the game in the seventh when they scored three runs.

Anthony Boccio and Blaze OSaben of Warrenton, VA, each had a pair of RBI’s to lead the Cardinals past the Lumberjacks, while Robert Mozeley added an RBI.

Hits came at a premium in the game for both teams. Front Royal had six total hits, while Covington finished with just four total.

AJ Fletcher, who made his VBL debut on this day, had half of the Lumberjacks team hits as he went 2-for-4 at the plate. Gabriel Miranda and Gregory Melo each had an RBI.

In the top of the seventh inning after Covington’s third run scored, Kendra Noriega came up to the plate with the tying run at second base and popped out to end the rally.

Kyle Morse dropped to 0-2 on the season. In four innings on the mound Morse allowed five runs on six hits for the Lumberjacks. Waylon Sebren and Robert Loya both tossed two shutout innings each out of the bullpen.

The loss was the Lumberjacks second streak of two or more in a row.
