COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – The Alleghany Highlands Community Services Board has been hosting events to educate the public on the importance of taking care of their mental health during this month of May which has been dubbed Mental Health Awareness Month.
Last Saturday, a Community Awareness Day was held at Teddy Dressler Park in Covington. Members of the community stopped by to pick up educational information on mental health and were invited to play corn hole.
On the May 1, an awareness walk was held at Jackson River Sports Complex in Covington. Members of the community and local agencies participated in the walk. At the walk’s conclusion, Vincent Wyatt, athletic director, Mountain Gateway Community College, Clifton Forge, spoke to the community from his own personal experiences.
