The Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce & Tourism sponsored a ribbon-cutting celebration for Formals & Florals on Main, Covington, Thursday.
The Chamber’s Executive Director, Teresa Hammond, welcomed the audience before introducing Kathleen All, Chamber President. “It’s really exciting to have this available here in Covington for our brides and prom goers,” said All as she also welcomed Tara Simmons-Brewster as the newest member of the Chamber.
Covington Mayor Tom Sibold followed by saying “it’s so exciting to have something like this on Main St. Clifton Forge Mayor Jeff Irvine followed with congratulations from the town of Clifton Forge. “It’s an economic booster that you are putting here today,” said Alleghany County Board of Supervisors Chair, Matt Garten. Covington Vice-Mayor David Crosier closed out the congratulations and thanks from the government officials.
“Pastor Steve (Noel, Good News Church on Main) is the mastermind that orchestrated a way to be able to fill the room,” said Simmons-Brewster. “We definitely appreciate the church. They have been a huge asset.” Formals & Florals on Main is attached to Good News Church on Main.
Simmons-Brewster advised that the store has bridal gowns, ranging from size 0 to 44 and they can order anything that a customer may need that may not be found in the store. They also have prom dresses, homecoming dresses, shoes, veils, hair pieces, wedding belts, jewelry, and suit and tuxedo rentals.
“Ordering and getting dresses for her daughter’s pageants was a catalyst for opening the business as well as fulfilling the dream of her mother, Connie Simmons, whose dream was to open a dress shop many moons ago,” said Simmons-Brewster.
Formals & Florals on Main is located at 331 W Main St. Their store hours are Mon – Fri. from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and by appointment.
