The Alpha Beta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a society of key women educators, is raffling off a framed print, “Humpback Bridge,” which is one of the most beautiful and sought after prints by Virginia artist P. Buckley Moss.
This print shows a winter landscape with the oldest of Virginia’s remaining covered bridges and a winter sleigh pulled by a horse. In the foreground stand Moss’ iconic Canada geese.
The 1991 print was out of print by 1993. In 1991, the print retailed for $225. In 2015, the print was valued at $1,800. This piece is a rarity and can only be bought when someone is willing to part with it. This specific print number is 34 out of 1,000.
The print and the framed print are both autographed by the artist. The latter signature is with Moss’ gold pen.
Professionally framed at Loving Frame and Art in Covington, the print has five mats that accentuate the colors found in the print. A wooden frame surrounds this beautiful composition. The original print measures 24” wide by 18” inches high (frame is 34.5” x 28”)
The purpose of the raffle is two-fold. The print belonged to Shirley Saville, a teacher who taught at Callaghan Elementary School for 30 years. She was also a member of the Alpha Beta Chapter where she served as president twice.
It was her wish that the print be sold to raise money for scholarships awarded by Alpha Beta to high school seniors that attend Alleghany, Bath and Covington schools who have the desire to teach.
The raffle begins Sunday, Nov. 1, and ends on Saturday, Nov. 28. The winner will be notified on Tuesday, Dec. 1.
Tickets are $10 each. Think of the ticket as a chance to purchase a nice Christmas present for a friend, for yourself. or as a donation to further a future teacher’s education.
The print may be seen at Livy’s Closet in Clifton Forge during the month of November. You may also purchase raffle tickets there.  Delta Kappa Gamma members are selling tickets.
If you are unable to find a member to purchase a ticket, you may message Donna Saville Beirne on Facebook and she will make arrangements for you to purchase a ticket.
