COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – The Alleghany Mountaineers boys varsity soccer team are off to a 1-2-1 start to their 2023 season after the first two weeks.
Aly Jua’rez and Hayden Knighton lead the team with four goals each.
In their recent match coming on Thursday, March 27, the Mountaineers were swept in the regular season series with the Stuarts Draft Cougars following a 3-2 loss at home. Jua’rez and Knighton each had goals for the Mountaineers. The Cougars had beaten the Mountaineers in Stuarts Draft on March 16th, 3-1.
The Mountaineers victory came in a 6-1 defeat over their crosstown rival, the Covington Cougars, last Tuesday, March 21, at home. Knighton led all scorers with two goals, while the Cougars grabbed goals from Jua’rez, Brenden Seckner, Brady Prior and Xzavier Hayslet. Jesus Reyes had the Cougars lone goal in the loss.
In their draw match, the Mountaineers in their season opener had tied Nelson County 2-2. Jua’rez and Knighton each had a goal in the tie.
