BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech running back, Marcellous Hawkins is one of 113 nominees for the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy, college football’s highest community service honor.
The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy is presented annually to the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) player who best combines exemplary community service with leadership and performance on and off the field. Named after Heisman Trophy winner and College Football Hall of Famer Danny Wuerffel, the award reflects his lifelong committment to leadership, service, and unity.
Hawkins played in 11 games last season, making nine starts. The Oklahoma City, Oklahoma product tallied 118 carries for 749 yards and a touchdown for an average of 6.3 yards a carry. He forced 44 missed tackles and gained 562 yards after first contact.
During his time in Blacksburg, Hawkins has made a positive impact in the New River Valley and surrounding region. Among his efforts, he helped spearhead a canned food drive for Micah’s Backpack, which collected nearly 2,400 cans of food to help address food insecurity in the New River Valley.
Hawkins also served as a Hokie Family Night ambassador at Margaret Beeks Elementary School, engaging with elementary school students through conversation, activities, autographs, and photos, helping create a positive and memorable experience designed to strengthen school-community connection and encourage youth engagement.
He supported the Touchdowns for Turkeys initiative around the holidays and has served as an ambassador for the American Heart Association’s Heart Ball in Roanoke through an NIL partnership, supporting awareness and fundraising efforts for cardiovascular health while engaging with community stakeholders to promote the organization’s mission of fighting heart disease and stroke.
The 2026 Wuerffel Trophy recipient will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards show on December 11, and will also serve as captain of the 2026 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
