Christina Terrell is a junior at Covington High School. This is her second year as a student of the Healthcare program at Jackson River Technical Center under the direction of program instructor Johnell Cantrell.
Terrell participated in the HOSA (Healthcare Occupation Students of America) Leadership Conference held March 10-13, 2023, in Williamsburg, Virginia. During the closing ceremony of the weekend, Terrell was recognized for a top-three finish in the state on the Nutrition exam.
The timed exam was proctored at JRTC prior to the weekend’s events. The exam consists of 101 questions (100 multiple-choice plus a tiebreaker question). The results of the exam were not made public until the award ceremony on Sunday. The top-five competitors were called to the stage, and Terrell was identified as a top-three finisher.
“I am extremely proud of Christina,” stated Cantrell, “She has worked incredibly hard to reach this milestone committing countless hours in preparing for the exam.”
Terrell is active in CHS women’s basketball and softball. She is deciding between a career in healthcare or veterinary science and is looking to continue her education at Virginia Tech and James Madison University after graduation.
Terrell is now qualified to compete on a national level at the ILC (International Leadership Conference) in Dallas, TX this June.
