Long-time Bath County Supervisor, Byrd, Has Died

WARM SPRINGS — Long-time Bath County supervisor and U.S. Army veteran Richard Byrd has died.

 
Byrd died Saturday, Jan. 16, at the age of 73 after his health had declined in recent years.

 
A career public servant, Byrd served six terms totaling 24 years on the Bath County Board of Supervisors representing the Valley Springs District. He
served on the board from 1992 to 2011 and was elected to a sixth term in 2015.

 
When he left office at the end of 2019, he was the chairman of the board of supervisors.
 
Byrd is survived by his wife, Pat; a daughter, Amy Gwin; two granddaughters Kendall and Kayden; and a great-granddaughter, Marley.
