CLIFTON FORGE — Douglas Lee Claytor, 84, of 115 Meadows of Wilson Court, Clifton Forge, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke.
Doug was born Oct. 3, 1936, in Augusta County, to the late James E. and Effie B. Sprouse Claytor.  
He served in the United States Navy from 1954 to 1958 and was a retired operator for Westvaco Corporation of Covington.   
He was a member of Central United Methodist Church where he served as an usher, belonged to the Men’s Bible Class and was on the Property Committee.  
He loved gardening, woodworking and was an avid UVa. sports fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ila Chestnut Claytor; four sisters, Elsie Doyle, Corrinne Thomas, Edna Harris and Naomi Sprouse; and two brothers, Linwood Claytor and Denver Claytor.
He is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Edwards and husband Douglas of Fredericksburg and Carol R. Claytor of Clifton Forge; a son, Douglas O. Claytor and fiancée Kelly Nichols of Hampton; a sister, Drucilla White and husband Winfred of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, James Claytor of Augusta Springs; six grandchildren, Matthew Edwards, David Edwards, Travis Claytor and wife Morgan, Kyle Claytor, Kaitlyn Claytor and Heather Claytor; a great-grandchild, Finnley Claytor; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 23, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with the Rev. Marion Sortore and Mr. James David Williams officiating. 
Services will conclude at Nicely Funeral Home.  
Entombment will take place in the Mausoleum of Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor at a later time.  
Due to current COVID-19 health concerns, the funeral service will be private for the family. 
The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Central United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 16, Clifton Forge, Va.  24422.
