Dwight Mason Rohr, age 70, of 347 East Gray Street, Covington, Virginia died Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at LewisGale Hospital – Alleghany in Low Moor, Virginia.
Dwight was born July 18, 1952, in Covington to the late Edward Mason and Betty Eppling Rohr. He was a retired radio announcer for WKEY and WXCF radio stations. He was a member of First Christian Church and Dunlap Christian Church and very active in his community. His former memberships included the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, the Ruritans (in which he served as both Covington and District Governor), the JayCees, and the American Radio Relay League (50 years). He was a supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, serving as Scouter, Assistant Scout Master, Scout Master, and served at the district level. He belonged to the Virginia Mountain Amateur Radio Club and the Mountaineer Amateur Radio Emergency Services. He was a spotter for Skywarn. He served as a Covington City Council member. Dwight was a devoted Mason and his involvement included the Covington Masonic Lodge # 171 A. F. & A. M. (past Master), the Royal Arch Chapter # 24, the York Rite Chapter # 24, the Alleghany Commandry # 23, the Scottish Rite, Past Patron of Martha Chapter # 21 Covington Order of the Eastern Star, Past Patron Mountain Chapter # 168 Newcastle OES, Past Patron Electa # 33 Roanoke OES, Past Royal Patron Blue Ridge Court # 8 Charlottesville Order of Amaranth, member Roanoke Valley Ct # 13 Roanoke OA, present member Destiny Court # 14 Manassas OA, and Grand Representative to Queensland & Chairman of Press Committee 2022 – 2023 for the Grand Court Order of Amaranth.
In addition to his parents, Dwight was preceded in death by an infant brother, Timothy Rohr.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Erwin Rohr of Covington; two sons, Chris Rohr of Covington and Dr. Joseph Rohr and wife Dr. Lori Rohr of Egg Harbor City, New Jersey; three grandchildren, Matthew Rohr, Daniel Rohr, and Caleb Rohr; and a number of cousins.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 6, 2023, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Larry Atkin and Reverend Bill Gilliland officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. Pallbearers will be Jon Brackman, Delbert Fridley, Ray Ray Keen, Jerry Ruble, Jim Whitehead, Ricky Lacks, Richard Fridley, and Tim Walton. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home. Masonic Rites will be conducted at 7:00 PM by members of the Covington Masonic Lodge # 171 A.F. & A. M.
