The Alleghany Lady Mountaineers (11-6, 4-4) cruised to a 49-30 Three Rivers District road victory over the Glenvar Lady Highlanders (10-9, 4-4) on Thursday evening.
Macyn Cash led the Lady Mountaineers to a victory following a game-high 15 points.
Cash was one of three Lady Mountaineers in double figures scoring, along with Kendell Keene who scored 12, and Kelsey Nicely who scored 10.
Cash and Keene combined for six three-pointers, each knocking down three a piece.
Rhyan Harris led the way in scoring for the Lady Highlanders with 13 points, while Olivia Keen added 12.
The opening period was a slow start for both teams with neither able to pull one side away from the other.
With the first quarter winding down, Keene put the Lady Mountaineers 8-6 by knocking down one of her three three-pointers.
The second quarter would be the difference maker to the game.
The Lady Mountaineers scoring run would carry over into the second quarter where the team scored the quarters first five points thanks to Abbie Fridley who made a nice pump fake to get around the defender to make her jump shot and Keene’s second three-pointer.
The Lady Mountaineers had built an 8-0 scoring run to take a 13-6 lead.
Despite trailing by seven early points, the Lady Highlander kept with the pace and scored five straight points to get within two at 13-11.
That though would be the final points of the half for the Lady Highlanders as the Lady Mountaineers would score the final 10 points of the first half to take 23-11 lead. During that stretch, Cash and Keene connected on back to back three-pointers.
In the third quarter, it was more of the same from the Lady Mountaineers as they put together great ball movement and executed plays.
The Lady Mountaineers had built their lead to as high as 21 points in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Highlanders did get the game within 13 points. Just as the Lady Highlanders built some momentum, the Lady Mountaineers would quickly take back control of the game and rebuilt a 21-point lead after scoring eight straight points with Nicely scoring six of them.
As a team the Lady Mountaineers were 11-17 at the free throw line.
The Lady Mountaineers have now won three of their last four games.
The two teams split their regular season series as the Lady Mountaineers avenged a 49-42 home loss to the Lady Highlander on January 11th.
The Lady Mountaineers played at Craig County on Saturday and host Carroll County tomorrow at 6:00 p.m.
